Pet training, including basic dog obedience such as how to train a dog to come, sit and stay, is sometimes a difficult thing for pet owners to accomplish. Using a positive, reward based program to train your dog will not only help you teach your dog basic commands but will promote a bond between you and your dog. Similar techniques can be used in cats to correct behavioral issues, such as litter box problems.
Working as a veterinarian for the past 20+ years, Lorie has developed a strong desire to help pet owners keep their pets healthy by educating them on the various health care strategies which can protect pets against infectious diseases, parasites, and other dangers. Attending the University of Nebraska, Lorie received a Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to attend the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1986. Actively practicing veterinary medicine requires a commitment to continuing education and this is a commitment which Lorie takes very seriously. With the rapid advances made in veterinary medicine over the past 10 years, it is important to stay up to date. To that effect, Lorie is a member of the Veterinary Information Network, a veterinarians-only community which provides clinical information, continuing education, collegial support and a number of ancillary services. Lorie is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association, and she does a large amount of work for the Volunteer Services for Animals, a non-profit local group dedicated to helping pet owners and their pets. Currently, you can find her at the Pet Health Care Gazette, Feline Health Care Corner and Canine Health Care Corner. She is also the National Pet Health Examiner. In addition, Lorie has published numerous articles to various E-zines and newsletters, as well as providing news material to PRWeb. She is also writing for Ehow.com at the present time.
