Lisa L. Rollins is a Texas-born, Tennessee-based freelance writer and journalism educator whose articles have appeared in Country Weekly, Twang, Country America and American Profile, among other magazines. Prior to joining academe in 1997, she worked as a full-time journalist, editor and columnist for several publications, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and BUDDY: The Original Texas Music Magazine. Most recently, Rollins began reporting on the country scene via The Country Lowdown with Lisa, a weekly, country star-focused chat that's broadcast on radio stations such as Texas' KVOU-FM and Oklahoma's KYKC-FM. An award-winning print and broadcast journalist, Rollins has been a member of the Society of Professional Journalists (founded as Sigma Delta Chi), the largest organization for professional journalists, since 1987. She also served as a Representative at Large and as Region XII director on its national board. Although she has diverse writing interests, Rollins especially enjoys education-related features and entertainment/music journalism. Regarding the latter, she's interviewed artists such as The Statler Brothers, Garth Brooks, Gene Watson, Alice Cooper, Poison, Travis Tritt, the Black Crowes, Charley Pride, Diamond Rio, Jason Aldean, Queensryche, Dwight Yoakam and Pantera, as well as comedian/actor Jerry Seinfeld, celebrity designer Michael Payne and actor Jon Cryer, among many others. First published at 6, Rollins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism, with minors in anthropology and business; a Master of Science degree in mass communication, with an emphasis in cultural theory and media management; and an Education Specialist degree in higher education/administration and supervision. She completed her doctoral study in education at Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn., with research interests in adult learning theory, learning styles, and media convergence within the undergraduate journalism curricula. For the past dozen years she has made her home near Nashville, with her son and three "rescued" dogs. Rollins welcomes e-mailed correspondence from readers and will reply as time permits.
