Since childhood, Shelly has been a voracious reader and info-junkie. Her dream day would include unlimited hours with her laptop and a huge pile of magazines and newspapers - preferably with a cup of tea and chocolate nearby - but her 3 active boys don’t generally allow that. Shelly’s quasi-neurosis about her family’s health frequently drives her online, and has earned her the reputation of the One Most Likely to Forward a Link to friends and family with the latest research findings on any given topic.
Shelly holds a master’s degree in public health from St. Louis University. Her career in the health field spans 21 years, with stints as a dental hygienist in private practice, a university research coordinator, a research scientist/manager in the oral clinical development department of a leading consumer products company, and her part-time work for the last 9 years as a clinical research freelancer. Her writing has been published in RDH Magazine, and she has collaborated on several publications for scientific oral health journals. Shelly is excited about reaching a new audience by capitalizing on her passion for scouring out timely and relevant health information to pass on in an understandable way that allows others to make informed and confident choices.
Shelly has served as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children. In addition to health, her other areas of interest include parenting, adoption, travel, alternative medicine, nutrition, ‘crunchy conservatism’, religion, and education.
