Laney Traylor has been writing continuously for more than 20 years, as her convoluted career path has led her through the fields of journalism, law, teaching, and office administration. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a minor in English literature, from Memphis State University in 1993. She then went on to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she abandoned her graduate studies after one year to attend law school, receiving her law degree in 1997. Laney discovered her passion for cooking at age five, when she prepared her first solo meal of French toast. Thirty years later, she remains an enthusiastic and adventurous home cook and baker. Her culinary point of view is that everyone should be able to “play with their food” — that is, anyone can learn basic techniques that they can then adapt to their own personal tastes. (She is only vaguely embarrassed that she is so pompous as to have a culinary point of view in the first place.) She maintains that she is not crazy, despite her refusal to use canned frosting rather than make her own from scratch. Laney is also a self-proclaimed science-fiction/fantasy “fangirl.” However, she enjoys almost all genres of film, television, and music and loves all things pop culture, making a habit of watching entirely too much television. She has been an avid reader since age two, and is often in the middle of reading three or four books at the same time, although not actually simultaneously. Known among her friends as a quasi-librarian, she will lend you her precious books only if she trusts you completely. Laney likes to travel whenever possible, but can ordinarily be found in Memphis, where she lives (and eats) with her husband Jeff and two ancient, grumpy cats. She can also be found on Twitter, under the username “moodyredhead”. |
