If the topic is how to feel, think and live better, I'm all over it. I'm a freelance writer with a B.S. in Psychology and Marketing from Rollins College and University of Florida. I've written for several print and online publications including Playground Magazine, Mothers & More Forum, the Mothers Movement Online, The Orlando Sentinel and Oviedo/Winter Springs Life. My focus is mind/body/spirit and human potential:
The brain and how people interpret the world through spirituality and science is still largely a mystery which makes it fascinating. In 1999 I co-founded of the Orlando chapter of Mothers & More (a national support/advocacy org for mothers). Mothers stories are my story because although we're unique in our transition through motherhood, we share a universal connection. Motherhood is far more layered than what we're told in Lamaze class or by family and friends. It's not always "glorious, fun, or beautiful," sometimes it's, "soul-sucking, hard and frustrating", but it's always worth it. Dualities like this should never be shame-filled, because they reflect truth. My ten year old daughter, husband of 16 years, Pug, hamster and fish make up my small, imperfect but close family. - Laura There is nothing noble in being superior to some other person. True nobility comes from being superior to your previous self ~ Hindu Proverb No one can make you feel inferior without your consent -- Eleanor Roosevelt Compassion and empathy are humankind's buried treasure, so give away all your gold. - Laura |
