Since 1978 I have, as a hobby, built exercise devices, and explored various exercise techniques. Recently, I solved the key problem which had prevented my most promising invention from being brought to market. Thus, I interrupted my PhD work to bring this product called the HoloBarre to market (www.erols.com/physical). Its claim to fame is that, along with its underlying principles, it effectively replaces virtually all home gym equipment made today--for pennies on the dollar, via a simple bar in a doorway, with extraordinary efficiency and convenience.

Although I always had much to say about numerous aspects of health and science, now that I "have a product", I also have a VEHICLE through which to speak, an EXAMPLE to support much of what I have to say.

Having a product to support one's philosophy is like having a picture accompany a description--it is no longer "just" words. The concepts now become tangible and more meaningful.

It is curious that with "information" at an ever-rising maximum, understanding seems to be at an ever-decreasing minimum. The reasons for this are numerous, and discouraging. To be the subject of an aricle, I hope. Although there is a general intellectual crisis, I focus on the health industry because I think the human cost there is especially steep, and it seems to be an area that has a lot of the public's attention, in a misguided sort of way.

In part, the public must take responsibility for being duped so regularly. But then, the fact that one may be drunk with a $100 bill hanging out the back pocket does not give permission to steal it. I think entrpreneurial America is robbing its citizens blind.

And, the motivation craze that is sweeping the country is another media fad. Motivation without education or true understanding is like any enthusiasm without skill....inevitably it wanes.

My passion, then, is to motivate people to understand, which then will perhaps naturally perpetuate true learning. Especially when I can show how costly it is to NOT understand, and therefore not respond appropriately.

I would not have brought my product to market, or have started to view my message in a larger context, if

1) quite a few people had not insisted

2) I had not personally seen the throngs of people at Barnes&Noble bookstores at 12 midnight!

3) People still toiling at the Sunday Times crossword puzzle

and a few other hopeful signs of literacy & civilization.

I read a few articles on Nutrition and Fitness Equipment at Suite 101, and I certainly would not have been so kind in some of those reviews. Regarding the Ab Isolator, and the like, the reviewer quotes a professional as saying that the products may justify themselves by MOTIVATING the sucker who bought it, and the reviewer closes by cooly observing that although these products do no harm, they also do nothing that one couldn't do for free.

I think this in itself is an outrage, and is a much bigger issue that was skirted in those reviews. Apropo of your call for passion on Suite 101, I think that at times fire must be fought with fire, and that the fundamental issue of integrity in entrepreneurship must be addressed--loudly.

This fitness equipment apparently dazzles Americans the way shiny objects dazzle crows--and is worth just about as much.

I have not said much about myself, as I think my ideas are more important than my not-too-interesting life. Hobbies include restoring my house, welding, and ranting and raving.

My Internet level is still neophyte, as you will see from my web site www.erols.com/physical. I am interested in learning about search engines, etc.

I found Suite101 through Netrageous.com and liked their site, although I don't really have any favorites yet. Good information, it seems, is too often ransomed for your credit card #! Suite 101 may be a refreshing change.

Thanks for reading!
