Kimberley Powell
Suite101.com Contributing Writer
My writing career began at a very young age. By age 15, I was a published author in two anthologies. I was the recipient of the editor’s choice award for my first published piece of work. Since then my interests have shifted to special education, medicine, child abuse and auto racing.
I have always had a strong appreciation for individuals with disabilities. I have been fortunate enough to have taught with children Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, acquired brain injuries & fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Speech & Language Pathology as well as certificates in Special Education (parts 1 & 2), reading Braille, Applied Studies in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Child Psychology, Acquired Brain Injuries & oral deaf education.
Although I am not presently working as a Speech & Language Pathologist in the educational system, I have been fortunate enough to incorporate all of my interests into my work over the years. At present, I write press releases and sponsorship proposals for NASCAR teams. I also do sponsorship hunting and work with development drivers looking to break into NASCAR.
I am also a member of the Canadian Paediatric Society and am a FASD committee member for Resources for Exceptional Children. I write articles for Speedway Media and am a Topix.com Editor. I also do a weekly column for MacDonald Motorsports on the progress of Canadian driver DJ Kennington.
