This is the first time I've done freelance writing but I love the new opportunity it's offering me.
Education (I took the long way)
I spent eight and a half years in post-secondary. Most of that time was spent at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have a BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. I also have a BA (Honors) in Art History. My focus in art history is late Gothic - early Renaissance but I also have a great interest in ancient art - especially Egyptian art, as well as art produced at the fin de siecle. I wrote my honor's thesis on images of the Last Judgment produced in the Lowlands in the 15th century.
I also have a diploma in TV Production from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) - also located in Edmonton, Alberta. I currently work in the television industry.
Work Experience
For my day job, I'm a news promotions producer for a television station in Edmonton. I really enjoy what I do. I get to spend my whole day writing and coming up with quick, creative promotions for broadcast.
While I was studying at NAIT I did some writing for the student newspaper. I was able to cover the topics that appealed to me most - fashion and art. I wrote several articles on the local arts and fashion scene. I'm fortunate to live in a city with a vibrant arts and fashion community. I've covered some of the biggest exhibits that came through the Art Gallery of Alberta. I've also devoted a lot of time covering the local Fashion Week.
I do have a strong background in beauty and makeup as well. I've worked as a professional makeup artist - both for a cosmetic's company and freelance. I really love the process of makeup and how it makes most everyone feel better about themselves. I've done the makeup of countless brides and I have felt really blessed to play such a big part of someone's special day.
I constantly follow the world of fashion, art, and beauty. They are my obsession - and I look forward to sharing my obsession with readers around the world.
