With experience as a bedside registered nurse in a bone marrow transplant unit since 1993, Katrena A Wells incorporates first-hand experience based on her nursing knowledge and research demonstrating evidence-based practice.
Nursing & Teaching Experience
In addition to working part-time as a cancer nurse, Katrena also teaches Basic Life Support (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) classes through her local American Heart Association's training center. Katrena currently teaches nursing assistants and medical terminology students online through a community college. She created the first online Nurse Aide 1 curriculum for North Carolina and has also developed other online healthcare-related classes with a focus on the special needs of seniors.
Family Life
In the midst of raising three young daughters with GERD and multiple seasonal and food allergies, Katrena also enjoys teaching group exercise classes, including aerobics, step, kickboxing, boot camp, sculpt, yoga, and floor exercise with a dance flavor. Her desire to stay home with the kids has resulted in a rather frugal lifestyle. Her 1993 Chevy Cavalier has nearly 300,000 miles on it and she rarely ever buys clothes brand new.
With a father who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and encouraged people to build their character and a mom who is an excellent storyteller, Katrena has a keen interest in seeking to help and educate others through informative articles that may also inspire and engage readers. Katrena seeks to write about subjects that are relevant and useful with the example of her Granny, who was an insightful and progressive 12th grade English teacher who particularly liked "challenging" students and would readily say, "If you're going to fix carburators for a living, you should learn how to spell it."
