Hi, I'm Kat Long. I am an independent scholar specializing in the social histories of minority groups or other marginalized cultures. I've primarily written on gay and lesbian culture, women's studies and sexuality. I've also been accepted to the graduate history program at Hunter College at the City University of New York. My forthcoming book, "The Forbidden Apple: A Century of Sex and Sin in New York City" will be published by Ig Publishing in March 2009. "The Forbidden Apple" is a social history of sexual expression in New York City from the 1870's to the present, with an emphasis on the previously unexamined role of religious and social reformers in the development of sexual subcultures. I have published articles in the Village Voice, the Advocate, Playgirl, Bust, the New York Blade, the Washington Blade, Out Traveler, Women's E-news, the Gay and Lesbian Review and others. Most recently I was the full-time managing editor of GO, a monthly magazine for the lesbian community. I also contributed to the forthcoming "Encyclopedia of Gay Folklife," to be published by M.E. Sharp in 2009. I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1997 with a BA in Creative Writing and History, and I've lived in Brooklyn, New York ever since. |
