Kate Nivison

Suite101.com Contributing Writer
Kate on the Move, Kate Nivison

Kate Nivison loves travel - anywhere warm and exotic will do - and writing all kinds of stuff, especially when someone wants to publish it . It's for all the usual reasons, mostly to do with escaping from something. Kate started writing short stories and serials for women's magazines under several pen-names while teaching because she didn't want her students' mothers finding out what she did in her spare time while they were at the hairdresser's. It was that kind of school, and not a bit like teaching in Nigeria and Zambia for almost ten years while having three children.

But one novel ('Tiger Country', set in Sri Lanka), a book for beginner writers called 'How to Turn Your Holidays into Popular Fiction', some TV work and over a hundred short stories and serials didn't get her out of the house enough.

Then a writing buddy - Cathy Smith, with her own page on Suite101 - suggested Kate should try travel writing. Thanks, Cathy.

So over a hundred travel and general features later, maybe the BA in Geography and Anthropology and all that heat and dust weren't wasted after all. Some of it is on her website, www.sales-travelfeatures.co.uk

Kate loves tutoring a group of aspiring writers at home when she isn't bunking off somewhere, and still entertains fantasies that her new novel, 'The WIne is Red', set in Nigeria, will find a few readers at www.completelynovel.com
