My love of good food is larger than Africa, where I was born and raised. Well, in South Africa, to be precise. I left Africa for an adventure in Amsterdam in 1996 and I've been here ever since. So, does that make me Dutch or South African? Well, on paper I'm both (having dual nationality), but in my heart I am well and truly conflicted. Suffice it to say that I feel like an Amsterdammer with an exotic African background.

When I first arrived in Amsterdam it was a bit of a culinary desert, but I am pleased to say that a lot has changed over the last decade and nowadays Amsterdam's a pretty exciting place to be - yes, even for a foodie. It's also a great base for culinary travel to the rest of Europe.

I am not only a lifelong gourmand, but I work as a food writer, too. I am the Editor of the Dutch Food site on About.com (About.com is part of the New York Times Company) and I write restaurant-, cookbook- and product reviews and culinary articles, pieces and columns for a variety of consumer magazines, newspapers and publications, including Time Out Amsterdam magazine, The Holland Times newspaper, Access (an expat magazine in the Netherlands), and Holland Herald. I also work as a corporate journalist, copywriter and translator for companies in the food industry.

I hope to write about general food topics for Suite 101. I'll share some favourite tried and tested recipes and a few of my (very multi-culti) family recipes from South Africa, and I'll write about interesting things I've come across in Amsterdam or on my travels and about foodie (cook)books, films and whatnot. Variety is, after all, the spice of life.
