Joseph John is pursuing a master’s degree in journalism at Stanford University. He has seven years of experience as a journalist in India, and was part of the team which launched the country’s first 24-hour television news channel in English, Headlines Today, in Delhi. Joseph has worked for three different news channels – Headlines Today, CNN-IBN and UTVi – as Producer, Copy Editor and Assistant News Editor.
He began his television news career in the sports desk at Headlines Today, where he produced a daily sports bulletin, Sports Quarter. He also produced various shows related to cricket tournaments, the 2004 Euro and the 2006 World Cup in football, and Gold Rush, a daily show during the 2004 Athens Olympics. Joseph went on to write about politics, films and business, and developed an interest in studying the media and where it is headed, a quest which brought him to the United States.
Reading about and watching sport is a passion for Joseph. Reading C L R James’s Beyond a Boundary convinced him that good sportswriting is also about literature and prompted an unquenchable thirst for reading the best in sports literature.
Joseph is also a keen quizzer, and was a semifinalist in BBC’s Mastermind India in 1999.
