John Hoskison - European PGA Seniors Golf Tour, Myra Baker

John Hoskison currently plays on the PGA European Seniors Tour. He has been a professional golfer for over thirty years and is a Class ‘A’ member of the British PGA. Although he teaches extensively he also plays competitively for a living.

In 1976 at the age of seventeen John turned professional and became attached to the prestigious RAC Country Club in England where he studied the game under the eye of Ryder Cup player Jack Busson. In 1978 he earned his European Tour card and started to make a living playing competitive golf.

Having played with many world-class players including Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam and Sandy Lyle he won the first ‘Shooting Star’ award for the most improved player on tour.

In 1985 having suffered a severe leg injury John became the head professional at the West Surrey Golf Club where shortly after he had the honour of becoming Surrey PGA Captain.

Twice John has represented Europe against the Americans in the PGA Cup International Matches and among many tournament victories won the prestigious PGA National Club Professional Championships in 1991. He has also experienced the thrill of playing on the last day of a Major Championship – British Open 1991.

In 1992 Golf Monthly magazine invited John onto the teaching panel where he had a regular slot - this led to opportunities for writing about golf.

Travelling extensively throughout his career his last project abroad was helping to set up a teaching academy for junior golfers in China where he lived for two years.

John currently lives in Newbury with his partner Myra and son George
