Jeff Wetherington went on his first camping trip at the age of 16 in the Everglades National Park just outside of Miami, Florida. 35 years later he still enjoys loading up his gear to go hiking and camping in the great outdoors. Now a resident of Orlando, Florida, he appreciates the variety of opportunities the Central Florida landscape and weather allow when it comes to camping, hiking and backpacking, while also taking occasional trips out of state to experience colder weather and different environments. Wetherington is a member of The Wilderness Trekkers, a Central Florida not-for-profit organization with 400+ members dedicated to the education and promotion of the responsible recreational use and enjoyment of the outdoors, Hike & Camp Florida, the Orlando Adventurers Group and the Florida Trail Association, a nonprofit volunteer organization that builds, maintains, protects, and promotes the 1,400 mile Florida Trail (one of only eight National Scenic Trails in the United States), in partnership with the USDA Forest Service. He began his professional writing career as a contributor to Tribune Media Services, writing a hyperlocal blog for Orlando, Florida called Man About Town and is a charter member and contributor to Orlando MetroBlog. |
