Jeri Dayle-Rabinowitz
Contributing Writer
Jeri Dayle is a writer mom, or should I say a mom writer? I worked in advertising both full and part-time while raising my family, jobs that took twenty-two years. Now I am freelancing while shepherding the last two through the end of high school and off to college.
I am also a big animal lover and work as a volunteer for rescue groups and causes here in my part of New York. These include Rational Animal and Loving Touch Rescue. I wrote a memoir about a Rational Animal Event that is now part of their on-line blog, and I helped Loving Touch organize and run a fundraiser known as Poets for Pets.
I learned from an early affinity with Emily Dickinson about how much a writer's greatest loves influence his/her writing. That is why you'll find so many of my published pieces are about my children, dogs, and wildlife. Striving to entertain a seven year old with limited resources gave rise to my first craft book for children: Sock Crafts, which was published by Random House in 1999. I love to craft myself, and make beaded jewelry, bookmarks, and other items in my spare time, often using recycled materials.
In my career as a freelancer, I have worked both sporadically and with a regular beat for a media group known as Davler-Media. They publish diverse guides, including Big Apple Parent, Queens Parent, and several other editions in the NY Metro area. I have written about childhood diseases, theater, same-sex parenting, education, sports, childhood development and many other topics, and also interviewed authorities on learning disabilities and raising drug-free kids. You can read some of these at www.nymetroparents.com
Writing for Suite 101 is a great way to share what I've learned about parenting, family crafting, and veggy good eating habits. I hope you like reading my work on these topics as much as I have enjoyed being a part of the Suite.
PS If credentials impress you, then you might want to know I was one of the first graduates of Hofstra University's special Creative Writing program, which blended English Lit, Writing Workshops and Publishing basics. I don't want to say what year it was. % : )
