A freelance writer and graphic designer, I’m also a country girl through and through who loves rural life in northeast Ohio.

My love and talent for writing first sprouted in the 7th grade when I got involved in Power of the Pen, a writing competition for Ohio junior high students. It’s been growing and blossoming ever since. I received a BA in Communication Arts, with a concentration in public relations from Malone University, where I discovered another creative love – graphic design/desktop publishing. Thankfully, my day job allows me to combine the two (writing and designing) – I serve as communications coordinator for our local branch of Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit housing ministry. I have also written for several local newspapers.

As far as life experiences go, my rural roots have provided me with a wealth of first-hand knowledge. Growing up on a dairy farm wasn’t the easiest life, but it’s one I feel blessed to have had. It was my mom’s loving labor in that farmhouse kitchen that inspired my own fondness for all things home-cooked and hand-made.

Also an avid gardener, I spent 6 years working at a full-service greenhouse, doing everything from planting to pruning to helping in the retail store.

These days, my husband and I are raising beef cattle, one dog, three cats and our first child on our small hobby farm not far from where I grew up. For the past three years, we have been remodeling our turn-of-the-century two-story, doing most of the work ourselves.

Do I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day? Most of the time.

Would I trade any of it? Not a chance.
