Jeff’s approach to writing started from opposite ends of the spectrum. Creative writing came first and in grade two he was spinning stories about sea monsters battling against submarines. Shortly thereafter, he began to show an aptitude for math and science, which led to an academic career spent writing scientific reports. His studies in human biology at the University of Toronto had drawn to a close when, on a whim, Jeff sent an article to Big Brother Magazine, the skateboard world’s notorious, but now sadly defunct, bible of irreverence. The article was published, a cheque arrived in the mail, and Jeff got the bright idea that he could make a living by putting sentences together. A combined appreciation for brevity and creative description led to a position as the copywriter for VRX Studios Inc., specialists in producing interactive maps and virtual tours. Jeff immediately began exploring the world via the Internet to generate text for VRX's extensive destination content database and for their hotel and cruise clients, who include Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Fairmont, Hyatt Regency, and Holland America Cruise Lines. Jeff’s descriptive skills have also come in handy at the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, where he has written ad copy for the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. In the realm of pieces longer than 300 characters, Jeff's specialty is business writing. His copywriting company, Apostrophe Writing Services, helps businesses tell their stories and attract clients via websites, advertising, and a blend of printed and online promotional material. Jeff has also written articles for Momentum Magazine, covered Vancouver news and events for Beyond Robson, and continues to amuse himself by indulging his creative bug with the occasional short story. |
