John K. Davis
Suite101.com Contributing Writer
I was born, raised, and still currently live in Omaha, Nebraska. I received both my Bachelor's Degree in Education and Master's Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 1999, I retired from the Bellevue, Nebraska, Public Schools after thirty-five years as a secondary teacher, librarian, and 9th grade basketball coach. My wife and I have three grown children and eight grandchildren with whom we like to spend considerable time. Among my many interests are American and European history, reading, genealogy, old movies, trivia, travel and sports -- particulary those on the college level.
Since retiring, I have spent considerable time in researching our family's history. My wife and I hope within the next year or so to visit Wales where my paternal ancestors originated and The Czech Republic from where her ancestors came. I have also returned to the freelance writing that I first started doing in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Over this period of time, I have been fortunate to have had nearly twenty articles appear in regional magazines, Nebraska History, History Magazine, and Chronicle of the Old West. My article, "The Grey Wolf: Tom Dennison of Omaha" won the James L. Sellers Memorial Award for Outstanding Original Contribution Published in Nebraska History for 1977. I am also the author of an 8th grade Nebraska history text that was used for several years in Nebraska schools.
