Jan has been in the writing and editing field for more than 20 years. For many of those, her career was based on logistics: where her family went, that's where she worked.
After earning a BA in English at Clemson University, she worked for her family's handknitting yarn business, designing knitwear, writing newsletters, and traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. The closure of the business and a yearning to hit the stage brought her to graduate school in acting at University of Georgia. Even though theatre remained (and remains) a passion, love and marriage morphed that pursuit into graduate work in English at Clemson, followed by a few years as a stay-at-home mom in Upstate South Carolina and South Central Pennsylvania. During this time, Jan's writing was largely volunteer: her daughter's school newsletters, handmade greeting cards, editing friends' letters, and writing the occasional press release for local businesses.
A career move for her husband brought the family to coastal Maine, and Jan soon began working as Community Relations & Marketing Coordinator for the Miles Health Care system in Damariscotta. For ten years, she wrote articles, created brochures, authored websites, and designed materials on a myriad of health care subjects, until finally figuring out writing and editing skills are portable. Her freelance career was launched.
As the world grows smaller, Jan welcomes the chance to play a larger role in it through her writing.
