Listening and relaxing, Tarek Sanger

“Always add, always walk, always proceed.” St. Augustine.

A natural communicator I’ve never been able to resist the temptation to strike up a conversation with whoever happens to be nearby! I love stories - every story.

Born in Egypt, I now make my home just outside Ottawa, Canada and freelance for as many publications as I can.

Oddly enough English is my first language, Arabic my second and an Honours BA in English and Comparative Literature seems to have cemented that order. An avid reader of just about anything I deem well written I’m also blessed with an ‘insatiable curiosity’ to borrow from Kippling.

I have been an actor, market researcher, social researcher, studio jeweler and a consumer show manager but now I think I’ve settled on the perfect calling – journalist/writer. Since graduating from a journalism program three years ago, I have written for newspapers like the Ottawa Citizen, and local papers like the Kemptville Advance, the Kemptville EMC, the Manotick Messenger, Barrhaven Independent and The Packet. I’ve also enjoyed writing for magazines both commercial and corporate. So I’ve been published in Canada Post’s Performance Magazine, Sunlife’s Real Life Magazine and Health Focus.

My areas of interest are diverse and reflect my background and personality. Growing up in a family of doctors I acquired a healthy medical vocabulary and understanding of human physiology, so I enjoy exploring and writing about medical issues and have had the pleasure of interviewing people like Dr. Rienhold Veith, Canada’s Vitamin D guru, Dr. Garber at the Ottawa Hospital among others

A nature lover, the environment has always held my interest particularly alternative energy sources, which lead me to follow energy innovations in my region closely. Growing up around the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean nurtured a love for water-sports. I enjoy swimming and canoeing and every summer volunteer as a voyaguer with the Rideau Roundtable—it’s a great combination, eco-tour meets sports meets history, meets conservation.

More than a decade of working as a jewelry designer and manufacturer has honed my knowledge of the arts from fine art to crafts. A degree in acting from England and more than 20 years as an amateur actor and award winner have taken me backstage at many a production, concert and even film location. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Canada’s queen of the Blues Sue Foley and comedians Bowser and Blue.

In a nutshell I strive to tell the best stories I can, and hope my readers will find them entertaining and interesting.
