As the human mother of four dogs, I have to admit dogs are a passion. All my canines were strays or shelter dogs and are very grateful to have a real home and plenty of food.

Food is another passion. Not only do I like to make doggie treats, I like to cook for people, too. I've been known to make a mean pan of lasagna, but I'm a Southerner, so there's always barbecued ribs or chicken and dumplings in the future.

Underpinning it all, however, is my career as a writer. For the last 20 years, I have been working as a professional journalist in newspapers, magazines and radio. Currently, I am a full-time copy editor at a daily newspaper, but I am always interested in freelance writing or editing opportunities and working on my fiction and poetry.

My husband and I live in West Virginia, the heart of Appalachia. We have both moved away to places of more opportunity, but we always came back here, where we feel save in the mountains and at home and at ease with the people.
