I have a law degree from the University of Arizona and work as an editor for a legal publication on products liability law. As the editor of the publication, I write, edit others' work, and read my issue and other publications in page proof, scanning for grammar and spelling errors, style problems, and spacing and alignment issues. I enjoy exploring the practical aspects of defective products and don't always get to write about the most useful things I learn at work for my publication. My page (hopefully) will be an exploration of the practical nuts and bolts of what products don't work the way they're supposed to, what the associated dangers are, and what you can do to protect yourself. Almost all the regulatory agencies that deal with consumer products have websites that track dangerous products, providing manufacturing information, and are among some of my favorites. These include sites on cars (www.nhtsa.gov); food & drugs (www.fda.gov); and toys, consumer products, and recreational items (cpsc.gov). A wealth of consumer information (generally) is also available on the following sites: Consumers Union-- www.consumersunion.org Public Citizen-- www.citizen.org Center for Auto Safety-- www.autosafety.org Geneticall Engineered Food Alert-- www.gefoodalert.org Center for Science in the Public Interest-- www.cpsinet.org |
