I have over five years of academic study in the field of American film and literature behind me, with both an Undergraduate and Postgraduate qualification gained from the University of Birmingham. My specialist subject is the link between death, the popular film icon and the self. The presence of death within the cinematic image is explored within my work to suggest that fan identities incorporate mourning. This is influenced predominantly by the uncanny, separation anxiety and digital technologies. I use Marilyn Monroe as a case study here as my interest extends to biographical programming and research. This work is available through The University of Birmingham library: http://libcat.bham.ac.uk/TalisPrism/doSearch.do My writing to promote independent film and UK film festivals can also be found at www.battleroyalewithcheese.com |
