My name is George Watts and I am studying Sports Journalism at the London College of Communications. I am nearing the end of my FDA degree, and am now beginning my first steps in the journalism profession.
Sport has always been an integral part of my life. I have always played a variety of sports and followed most sports with a keen interest. Since I was young sports such as football, tennis and boxing have been high on my list of hobbies. It was only when I left college after completing a National Diploma in Sports fitness, that I realised that Sports Journalism was where I wanted to pursue my enthusiasm for the world of sport. However, football has always been my passion. I love to play football and equally love watching and reading about the beautiful game. I have vast knowledge about the sport and could be classed somewhat as a “geek” with my stats and figures about all things in the football world.
The past two years I have done work experience for the Norwich Evening News, as well as UKIP Media events helping publish work for their Passenger Terminal website. I also spent a week with the Money Marketing team, producing a number of news articles which were published on their website and one piece that went into their weekly magazine. In May I will complete a two week work placement at Hayters News Agency, an opportunity that I am thoroughly looking forward to. The work placements that I have undertaken have given me a basic knowledge of the business and an insight into the workings of professional organisations. I enjoyed working on the universities content management system helping produce the university website. I feel that this knowledge will help me when I work on magazines, newspapers and online. I do a lot of writing for the university website and believe I possess the skills needed to produce quality work to go online.
