Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I now live in Vancouver, Canada (and am still not quite used to the change in temperature). I taught Film, Media, and English Literature at the University of Cape Town (where I completed my MA in English), and worked as a content developer and editor for the popular online destination guide Wordtravels (the site boasts over 700 000 unique visitors a month). Since moving to BC, I have worked as a Communication Instructor at The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) teaching Business and Technical Writing to a wide range of students and reworking a course manual for Electrical Engineering students. I continue to teach there part time while I run my own copy writing and editing company, Meerkat Communications, which focuses mostly on web content writing, marketing materials and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I have also done freelance editing and writing for publications such as the Edgars Club Card Magazine, Galcape, Northwest Ticket and Protea Digital. I have also had my poetry published on Litnet and in New Contrasts Literary Journal. I am an active blogger, writing about my experiences as an immigrant in The Canadian Chronicles. My passion is writing in all its forms, but I also love photography, reading, music, film, walking, and exploring new places. Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/geraldineeliot |
