Welcome I am a mother of two children. All three of us are diagnosed ADHD. Life at our home borders on the Applied Chaos Theory. Actually, with a little planning, in our daily routines and we do very well. I am a Child & Adolescent Psych RN for children age 6-18, in an acute care crisis stabilization setting at a local hospital. My job is extremely challenging. The children I see mostly come from the juvenile justice system and often have gang affiliations. Parrot Passion My true passion is helping parrot owners solve behavior problems with their Parrot and preventing a Parrot from losing its home. I take in and rehab abused, abandoned, neglected, and unwanted Parrots and help them find their "forever" home, or they become part of our permanent family. Our current feathered family consists of two Congo African Greys, Leo and Sashi, and one Velcro bird, an Umbrella Cockatoo named Gigi. BIG Bird Leo was my first BIG bird and parrot rescue. He was a self-mutilator and feather picker at the time we met. It was because of "Alex the Parrot" that I always wished to studied and be blessed by the presence of the intelligent African Grey Parrot. I knew from the moment I met Leo he was to be my first BIG bird. Today my Leo is a gentle, fully feathered African Grey. The Truth I am asking every potential bird owner to visit three important websites, BEFORE they purchase a bird. They are The Gabriel Foundation, The Alex Foundation, and My Toos These websites show the full spectrum of responsibilities bird owners face in the daily care of a Parrot. In addition, they show the tragedy of the life of a bird bought as a commodity. The only one that suffers when an owner is irresponsible is the bird. Usually the bird finds they go from home to home, learning more bad behavior as they are neglected or abused. It was Alex and Dr. Irene Pepperberg, through The Alex Foundation and the Alex Studies who initially were the first to show that our avian friends had a real cognitive ability to communicate and were not simply another "Bird Brain." Digital Photography I love to take pictures of nature! The flowers, sunsets, and the beautiful butterflies that fill our world with light and beauty are my passion. Besides digital photography, I love to create from my pictures unique and unusual digital art. My Writing I began my online writing career at BellaOnline (The Voice for Women) in June of 2006. I am the BellaOnline editor for the Missing and Exploited Children Website and the Crime Website. I am passionate about both subjects in many ways and have never had a problem coming up with a topic to complete an article by my deadline. I am excited to be here at Suite101. I believe I will have more flexibility in my writing. I am looking forward to writing what comes into my heart and not having to stick to a specific topic.
