Where do I start?
Entering college I thought: "Accounting is a good career." So I studied Accountancy, and upon graduation I took a job with a Big 4 firm and began my “prosperous career” as a public auditor.
About six months and 7,000 excel spreadsheets later, I realised this was not my calling and decided to return to university to pursue something I was always keen on during school… WRITING! If I was going to spend 12 hours a day at ‘work’, shouldn’t I be doing something I love??
Now, the only decision easier than what to study was where to study – overseas!! After a semester abroad in England during undergrad, the world suddenly felt small and I was anxious to continue exploring.
I graduated in November 2007 with a Masters in Journalism -- Newspaper Journalism to be exact -- from Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, England. (Yes, that is where Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor, and the haggard old oak is still standing (sort of) to commemorate.) For a year and a half I lived with the Brits, I learned with the Brits, and now, to the dismay of my American counterparts, I write like the Brits.
Slowly, I am developing an inventory of published freelance work, the first being an article regarding my study abroad experience in the British Council Educational Newsletter. Since, I have been published in print in YOGA Magazine, The Nottingham Evening Post, and Long Island Bride & Groom, and online at Donowdo.com, SexHerald.com, and TransitionsAbroad.com where I was recently awarded 2nd Place in the 2008 Student Travel Writing Contest. I work as an Assistant Editor for Dance Retailer News magazine and am ecstatic to say that I LOVE MY JOB!
When I'm not writing you can find me partaking in a whole long list of extracurricular activities that include reading, yoga, dancing, hiking and skydiving (I love witnessing people’s “are you insane?” reaction to that one!) Although most of my writing stems from my travel-bug, I am excited to explore a variety of topics. So I hope you enjoy reading, what I enjoy writing!
