Thoughts on how living green requires eternal awareness on our parts about the environmental and health implications of everything we do or buy.
I've always been concerned about the environment and my impact on it: I hate to throw away anything that could come in handy someday (to the point some call me a packrat), I go out of my way to find healthful, natural foods, I try to grow my own herbs and vegetables, and I read about environmental and food-safety issues constantly. I'm also forever trying to find new ways to live in a more environmentally responsible manner, which is why I decided to take on the Green Living section here. Part of the reason I've grown even more environmentally aware and health-conscious in recent years is my 4 1/2-year-old son Noah. I see that every choice I help him make -- what to eat, where to shop, how to travel -- will affect not only the quality of his future life, but the quality of life for everyone on this planet as well. That's why I believe it's so important to try, however possible, to live green, healthy and sustainably. I'm a veteran journalist who has written for publications including The Chicago Tribune, internet.com, Bird Talk, CRMDaily, Web Hosting Magazine. I also hold a degree in geology from Northwestern University. I live in northwest Florida with my husband Scott, my son Noah, one cocker spaniel, two parakeets and two macaws. |
