Jeffrey Welch - Profile

Earhart was born sometime in that cradle of the Fifties. . .

ah, nostalgia! But sitting still and thinking about how things

should be isn't for her. She has been active in mental health

advocacy since her introduction to DMDA (Depressive-Manic-

Depressive Association)in Dallas in 1986. Earhart and her husbandhave served on several boards, conducted BP and SO groups, and started several DMDA(Depressive-Manic Depression chapters in East Texas. Earhart served as president

of her DMDA chapter for two years. (And it was a hands-on deal--

back in the 80's when a rise in consciousness of mental health

issues was on an upswing; her number was a lifeline for many

BPs and SOs during those two years.)

Earhart was introduced to the Net when a friend surfed her around the Web for the first time; they were looking for a site for Nanci Griffith, a beloved folksinger. Shortly after, Earhart got online! Upon checking for a DMDA website, she found a number

of links to bipolar sites, including the bulletin boards on

which she has been an active poster. She belongs to several

mental health sites, five songwriter sites and a Nanci Griffith

mailing list.

Apart from mental health activism, Earhart is a lyricist for a

composer/publisher in Los Angeles and one in Ft. Lauderdale,

FL writing commercially popular lyrics. She has had four of

her songs cut so far. She has been an acoustic folk artist

since high school, played in several cover bands, and has her

own writers' CD.

Earhart holds a masters' degree in English/Theatre and taught

H.S. drama for several years in East Texas. But the lure of

playing in Austin, "The Live Music Capital of the World", became

too much and she moved to Austin, which she now considers

her hometown. She and her husband live in the heart of Old

South Austin, where, as bumper stickers proclaim: "70704: It's

More Than A ZIP code. . .It's A Lifestyle!"

Earhart learned about Suite 101 from two acquaintances involved with this site. She is looking forward to bringing you the best--and the most interactive and proactive--articles on mental health issues around!
