As a health professional I have learned the importance of focusing on a problem as quickly as possible. After all in the health care world we are dealing with human life, there is no time to waste. Therefore, my theory is to get right to the core of things and treat the real problem, not just the symptoms. Preventive medicine is an example of my theory, stopping the development of diseases that are preventable.
Education is our strongest defense in preventive medicine, keeping people informed with the statistics of data, assisting them in the making the right health decisions, etc. I have a goal to become part of a major team, assisting in more developments of preventive medicine, and the Suite101.com community will be a major avenue for me to do so.
My education/experience will be an asset in my contributing editor experience. For example, my undergraduate degree in nursing with my experience as a health care professional is my foundation for health education. My graduate degree in biology enlightens my understanding of how living organisms interact with our environment. My doctorate degree in medicine provides me with the knowledge I need to understand the disease processes of the human body. Last, but not least, my graduate degree in health service administration will grant me the clear mind I need to consider the opinions of other colleagues, assiting me in the presentation of research data, helping me master educating the Suite101.com community.
In the past I've been a contributing editor for Suite101.com. From 1999-2001 I submitted articles on Women & HIV, and from 2002-2004 I submitted articles on Maternal-Fetal Relationships. Now I am returning with a new topic, "Biology vs. Culture". This topic will discuss why we do some of the things we do (even though they may be detrimental to our health) and what we can do to overcome the strong influence our genes have on our mental and physical well-being.
I am looking forward to writing for the Suite 101.com community!
