Denis J Burke is a recent graduate of the Universiteit van Amsterdam where he followed a M.Sc course in Contemporary Asian Studies. He completed his thesis on the reality of the Tibetan political agenda in the light of China's changing place in the world in July 2007. He currently lives in Dublin, Ireland where he is originally from. Having worked with Tibetans in Dharamsala in India Denis has continued to research and work on issues relevant to Tibet's situation including current political discourses, historiography and future strategies. His studies have also included Central Asian regional politics, migration patterns in South and South East Asia and the evolution of democracy in South Korea. In Summer 2007 he assisted with research in the Bushuis library in Amsterdam on media representations of the European Union in the various member states, with his focus resting on Ireland. Denis was an early contributor to the international section of the Korean online newspaper Ohmynews- http://english.ohmynews.com- where he has written on travel and social issues. In June 2005 he was invited to Seoul to attend Ohmynews's first International Citizen Reporters' forum. As a keen travel fan Denis has lived and worked in Ireland, South Korea, India and The Netherlands and travelled extensively through Europe, Asia and Central America. He has written about his travel experiences for the recently published V!va List: Latin America 2007 and for the travel community website www.hereorthere.com While an undergraduate Denis studied English and Modern History while chairing the university drama society. He is an avid history buff and, since graduating has read widely on histories of other nations not covered by his undergraduate degree, notably in the Middle East. He has directed several plays and worked in audio-visual on Dublin's amateur circuit. He currently writes and is preparing proposals for doctoral studies relating to European relations with Iran. |
