Sarah Mikula received her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Oregon. Having strong interests in blending biology and psychology, she has moved on to manage two neuroscience labs at the University of California, Davis. Sarah began writing when she was fifteen, publishing articles in a newsletter called Getting Ready for at-risk youth. She wrote on topics as varying from balancing a checkbook to effective budgeting skills. Since moving to California her interest in writing has grown and she has written for websites including Helium and 1H2O, where she won a recent award for an article on the effects of droughts in California and Argentina. She has also written articles for Real Estate Experts on how the housing markets in Davis, CA and Portland, OR have been affected by the recession. As a neuroscientist, her main publication record is in scientific journals. Recently, she co-authored a research article with her husband, Dr. Shawn Mikula, on three dimensional reconstruction of striosomes, unique and poorly understood structures in the brain.
