I'm a crime fiction author whose first novel, IDENTITY CRISIS, was published originally in 2005 and reissued in 2009, in print and as an e-book. I had a short story published in the CHESAPEAKE CRIMES anthology. I've had more short stories accepted for publication in Back Alley Webzine and CHESAPEAKE CRIMES 4 from Wildside Press. I've judged short stories for the Shamus Awards and short stories written by children for the MWA's Joan Nixon Lowery Awards. I'm a member of Sisters in Crime, the Private Eye Writers of America, the Mystery Writers of America, the American Independent Writers and the Association of Independent Information Professionals. I'm also a freelance writer, who's published articles in several trade and association periodicals, including Corporate Legal Times (now Inside Counsel, a magazine for in-house counsel), Tomorrow's Teachers (an NEA publication), Contemporary Long-Term Care, SHRM Online and Five Magazine. I've also written for consumer periodicals like Northern Virginia Magazine and various community newspapers. I've written advertising case studies for reference books published by Gale Research. I've also written legal answer guides and updated treatises for Matthew Bender. Further, I've written marketing and promotional materials, like press releases, brochures, Web content, white papers, reports and a video script for businesses and non-profits. Samples of my work and testimonials are on my Web site. I have degrees in journalism, law and a Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland. I previously worked with one of the Dow Jones newswires, covering the legal and bankruptcy beat (including the U.S. Supreme Court) and worked as a reference/legal librarian for the Federal Trade Commission. I spent nine years practicing law before becoming a freelancer. I worked as an attorney for the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and for several years in private practice as a land use/zoning lawyer and general practitioner.
