The author rambles about the place of his birth, its importance to the music industry, and awful local tv stations.
Craig Sanders is proud to be the Suite101 Feature Writer for Folk Music, as writing and music have been his twin loves his whole life. Craig has been a journalist, singer-songwriter, and author of short fiction since his graduation from SUNY New Paltz in 2000. After said graduation, Craig decided to find and work as many interesting and unusual jobs as possible to find writing fodder. He has been:
In addition to this, Craig's short fiction has been published in magazines such as SLAB, Dreamforge, and Babel.Craig owes his eclectic music tastes to his upbringing. Craig grew up with a classic rock loving mother and a Mo-town loving father in the Bronx at the birth of the Hip Hop movement. He was further exposed to speed metal and grunge once moving to the suburbs and to alt country and folk in college. Craig found himself especially attracted to the singer-songwriters and folk artists of yesterday and today. His study of folk music and history began while working as a teacher for the developmentally challenged. He played folk songs on his guitar for the students and wondered where these songs came from. Research followed, and the rest . . . has yet to become history. Craig is an accomplished guitarist in flatpicking and fingerstyle. His style is a variation of Piedmont Blues, adding folk and jam band sensibilites in a blend that has yet-- and probably will never --make him famous. Though he does not often perform in public, he is rarely seen without his travel guitar, a nigh indestructable Martin Backpacker, nearby or in his awful car. He is available for lessons in the Rockland County, NY, USA, area, and is currently working on an instructional manual for guitar. In addition to his musical knowledge and skill, Craig has worked for over half a decade with special needs children and adults, both as a Teacher's Assistant, a Teacher, and a Treatment Specialist. Craig is currently persuing a Master's Degree in Special Education. Craig dreams of a day when he can unify his love of music with his love of teaching those with special needs. Craig would like to thank you for reading his work, and hopes that you enjoy it. Take a look at Craig's Blog for a more informal (and hopefully humorous) view on Music. Rock on. |
