Ballet/Jazz/Tap Dance Feature Writer
Terry Finch is a dance teacher and choreographer in Central Pennsylvania with an extensive training and teaching background in many forms of dance.
Education
Since the age of five, Terry has studied in many dance disciplines, including: ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, pointe, hip hop and modern. Between the ages of 12 and 18, Terry attended several dance conventions each year in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, in order to expand her dance training with many different instructors and choreographers. Her dance education continued in college, where she studied basic ballet technique from a teaching perspective, as well as modern dance and choreography.
Recognition
Terry Finch competed regionally in dance competitions between the ages of 12 and 18. She received many high-level awards with group dances in ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical. In addition, Terry received praise for solos in tap between age 16 and 18. She received the "Musicality Award" at Rhee Gold's American Dance Awards in 1997, and was named 3rd-Runner-Up "Dancer of the Year". In 1998, Terry was awarded the title of Senior Miss Premier at the Premier 2000 dance competition.
Teaching
From the age of 13, Terry assisted the instructors at her dance studio in jazz and ballet classes. She also taught and choreographed for her high school dance group. In the summer of 1998, Terry was asked to teach the dance portion of her high school's summer performing arts camp. While in college, Terry served as Vice President of the dance group, and taught evening master classes in jazz and lyrical.
Terry is in her second year as a teacher at a dance studio in Central Pennsylvania. She instructs students of all ages and levels in all disciplines, currently focusing on jazz, ballet, and hip hop. She will also choreograph pieces for the annual studio recital.
