Cathy Sunshine

Cathy is a full-time freelance editor, working for intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, and university presses. She frequently edits books and reports dealing with international development, poverty, education, and international public health. She also translates from Spanish and French to English, mainly in the field of international health. Cathy's interest in global issues goes back several decades. In 1972-73 she spent an academic year at the University of Dakar in Senegal. After graduation from college in the United States, she spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, working in a rural health clinic. Cathy keeps up with the latest developments in Africa through AfricaFocus.org. Immigration is another area of interest. Cathy designed and edited a series of anthologies called Caribbean Connections, published by Teaching for Change. The last title in the series, Caribbean Connections: Moving North, documents Caribbean immigration to the United States through interviews, oral histories, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Cathy also volunteers as a teacher of English as a second language to adult immigrants. In her spare time she enjoys reading multicultural fiction, including books in translation. She is a longtime member of the Booker Tea Reading Group, which has branches in Washington and Berlin and reads award-winning fiction from around the globe. Latest Articles
