Contributing Writer Vanessa Cross has a diverse background in Journalism and Law. Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Columbia College, Chicago (USA) and a Juris Doctor degree from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis (USA). She also has a Master of Laws degree in International Business Law from Vrije University, Amsterdam (The Netherlands). She is licensed to practice law in Tennessee where she has served clients as a trial attorney in both civil and criminal matters and as guardian ad litem in probate conservatorship proceedings.

Vanessa collected and edited the book of proverbs entitled "An Anthology of Black Folk Wit, Wisdom, and Sayings," which has been published by Andrews and McMeel since 1994. Her print media credits include bylines in Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Memphis Parent, Vegetarian Times, and Pathfinders Travel. In 1997, she served as Assistant Editor-Production for Telephony, a weekly trade magazine on carriers, convergence, and competition.
