A child of the 60's, teen of the 70's, married with small children in the 80's, and divorced with the same small children in the 90's, I now begin the new millenium with a patchwork of experiences behind me and a healthy appreciation for life in front of me.

Throughout the changes and paradoxes and responsibilities, my passions have given me an outlet and kept me "sane". Writing, reading, movies, quilting, and bubble baths have been my peaceful ports from the inevitable daily chaotic storms.

Still a single parent, I decided to go back to college 3 years ago to finish my Associates degree in History. How hard could it be, I thought, for a woman who was always a good student, a Mom whose 4 kids were reasonably independent of 24 hour a day care, and someone with a passion for ideas and learning?

Naive me, it was harder than I ever imagined and more rewarding than anything I'd ever done (except motherhood, of course).

But that's another story!

I'm here on Suite101 to guide you through the topic of Spinsterhood. Why, you may ask yourself, would anyone want to read or write about stereotypical "maiden aunts" or "old maid librarians"?
