Cleo Parker, Michael Briggs

I’m a dog enthusiast with many years of experience raising, training and showing dogs at American Kennel Club (AKC) events; my breed of choice is the Bull Terrier. My early work experience followed my passion for dogs as I worked in kennels and grooming salons throughout high school and college. Since graduating from Michigan State University, I have worked in advertising and marketing with a specialty in research and strategic planning roles, which nurture my insatiable curiosity and love of learning. I enjoy sharing what I learn with people through writing, speaking and creating online content.

I purchased my first show quality Bull Terrier in 1982 and have finished a number of American and Canadian champions, Recognition of Merit and obedience titlists in the intervening years. I’ve bred six litters, successfully placed over 30 puppies and have spent many hours educating prospective owners and counseling buyers about health care and training for their pets. I have served as an officer and committee head for the Bull Terrier Club of Metro Detroit and the Bull Terrier Club of America as well as the Terrier Club of Michigan and Progressive Dog Club of Wayne County. I’ve also judged a number of dog club matches and sweepstakes competitions. I continue to expand my education about dogs through reading, attending seminars, talking to experts and participating in online dog-focused activities.

My articles have appeared in both local and national breed publications, and I have given presentations on judging and breed characteristics at events sponsored by the Michigan Dog Judges Association and Detroit Kennel Club respectively. I have been interviewed a number of times by local media about dog issues and events, appearing in articles and features by the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Livonia Observer and WJBK-TV. I look forward to expanding my ability to reach and educate people about dogs through my participation with Suite 101.
