I am a former United States Marine and the author of MANSON, a short dark novel following the life of reclusive alcoholic, Hank Manson, and also a freelance journalist studying business at Upper Iowa University's Fort Polk Army Base campus near my home in DeRidder, Louisiana, where I live with my family. In matters of content choice my background is varied. Parenthood - I have been a stay-at-home dad since March, 08, giving me enough time to adjust to being a parent for more than the brief stints I had had before. Staying at home with my children has challenged me to be more patient and creative with them in helping with homework, playing, and discipline. Business - I grew up working for my parents. While working for my father at an accounting firm my duties included filing, billing, record keeping, and performing tax returns. I started my first business when I was 19 (network marketing) where I learned a lot about public speaking, sales, and time management. I spent a brief amount of time as a mortgage broker as well. Military - While in the Marine Corps from 2003-2008 I was a combat engineer dealing with construction, demolition, and minefield warfare. Most of my time was spent in construction while in Falluja, Iraq in 2005. I worked as a military police officer for about 5 months and spent the last year and half of my contract managing a logistics office and inspecting buildings/investigating accidents and injuries on and off of job sites. Currently, I am a military spouse. Writing - I have been writing since I was nine-years-old with some breaks in between 1991 and now. Primarily, I enjoy writing fiction but have began writing more non-fiction lately. In 2008, I had put together a 25 event book tour for my novel, MANSON, pushing it into a second printing. I also contribute to a parenting website called The Untrained Housewife where I am one of two dads. |
