Chad McPhail
Suite101.com Contributing Writer
My name is W. Chad McPhail. I teach high school English, Creative Writing, Publishing, and Journalism. In 2007 I was elected Teacher of the Year in Amarillo after having taught for five years in my district. I wrote my own Creative Writing and Publishing curriculum and feel that kids learn to manipulate language best in a print-rich environment. My kids publish real books, newspapers, articles and poetry in and out of my classroom.
I spend my free summers actively engaged in exploring the outdoors. Fly fishing, backpacking, camping, hiking, trail running and kayaking all keep me fit and learning about our habitat in the wild. Many of my outdoor articles have been featured in magazines such as Southwest Fly Fishing (destination pieces focusing on fly fishing in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah), ESPN.com/OUTDOORS (Flyrodding for Carp, A Late-summer Fly Fisher's Dream), Texas Fish and Game (Fishing with Papaw, Hell Boat, The Big Boat Debacle), Rocky Mountain Game and Fish (Hopping Around the Jemez: Troutfishing the Jemez River System), The Amarillo Globe (many outdoor sporting articles), The Angling Report (Cow Creek Ranch: Pecos NM), and more. A piece i wrote about fly fishing in Utah has also been featured in So Many Fish, So Little Time, by Mark D. Williams.
I have published several books utilizing Print On Demand technology, and operate my own publishing company helping many unknown talented writers to get their writing into the public eye. I have taught publishing seminars on how get just about anyone, anywhere published using Print on Demand as well.
My book titles include Finding the Madstone, Between Fact and Fishin', 201 Tips for the Camping Family, Magical Tragedy, Los Dos Barrios, and Publishing Students' Writing Using Print on Demand Technology.
I am also co-writing two fly fishing books with the aforementioned Mr. Williams due out in early 2010 titled So You Think You Want To Know How To Flyfish, and Home Bases, Fishing Places--Colorado.
