I am, at heart--and in practice as much as possible--a writer and artist; but another one of my interests is studying the Welsh language. Ever since my first visit to Wales at age four, I have been fascinated by its language, culture, and history. While in college at Berkeley, I had the opportunity to pursue my interest by taking a few Welsh language courses, and I was hooked. I am, of course, still a learner, but I keep up with my language skills through books, magazines, websites, correspondence with Welsh-speaking friends, and via Cymdeithas Madog's annual week-long Welsh course. With my topic site on Welsh Language, I hope to share some of my enthusiasm for the language and culture, and lead people to some helpful resources for further study. Welsh is just one of my many (too many!) interests; besides learning languages, I love travel, reading, music, art, and writing. I studied art in college--I received a B.A. in Art and Psychology from U.C. Berkeley and a Post-Baccalaurate Certificate in Printmaking from San Francisco Art Institute. In May of 2004 I completed an M.F.A. in creative writing at Mills College in Oakland, CA, with an emphasis on fiction and Young Adult fiction. I recently completed my first novel, a YA mystery partially set in South Wales, and am in the process of looking for a publisher. |
