Mexican Movies in the Spotlight at the Cinemaztlán Film Festival
Contemporary Mexican movies and restored classics make up the program of the third Mexican Film Festival Cinemaztlán, which opens on October 28 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Day of the Dead on November 1 is celebrated in fiesta style with a special screening of 'Que viva Mexico!' and a party.

My passions are film, food and travel - and in my opinion the three go very much hand in hand.
After graduating from the University of London, I qualified as a journalist and have been writing professionally about these topics since 2005. I went freelance in 2008.
I have lived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for five years and recently became the Food & Drink editor for Time Out Amsterdam magazine. I have also written about Dutch food for Amsterdam Weekly newspaper and Fisher's Travel SOS guide books. In an effort to counter some of the misconceptions about Dutch food - predominantly that it is boring and stodgy - I launched and maintain the website Eat Dutch.
As Suite101's Film Festival feature writer, I regularly attend film festivals both in Amsterdam and abroad, I write about festivals coming up around the world and review festival releases.
I am also an experienced Dutch-to-English translator and have translated everything from newsletters and press releases to handbooks and websites. My specialism, however, is photography, which is a different but not altogether unrelated form of visual expression from film.
To date, I have translated 101 Billionaires, a photography book about Russia by Dutch photographer Rob Hornstra, and two books for award-winning photograher Ad van Denderen, also Dutch: So Blue So Blue, portraying the 17 countries that border the Mediterranean See, and the upcoming Occupation Soldier, about Dutch military involvement in Chad and Afghanistan.
I also regularly translate the blog posts and articles on thesochiproject.org, a five-year 'slow journalism' project from Rob Hornstra and writer Arnold van Bruggen, which aims to document the changes taking place in and around Sochi, the Russian city set to host the Winter Olympics in 2014.
