Sometimes I feel like I've been writing all of my life. I certainly have been traveling that long, when, at the tender age of three weeks, my military family packed me off to the next tour of duty. The pen and paper came later and I've been recording my adventures, and misadventures, ever since. As a full-time freelance writer, I've had the good fortune to travel and share my experiences with readers all across the country. I've also met some interesting people and done some things I might not have otherwise done, like flying in a military helicopter, crushing wine grapes a la Lucille Ball, or "grilling" Senator Elizabeth Dole on the status of a new shipping port in North Carolina. I managed to make it to the top of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Diamond Head in Honolulu, Helvellen in the Lake District and the Monument in London and lived to tell the tales, yet I've always felt that some of the best adventures can be found in your own back yard. Over the years, I’ve written for numerous national and regional newspapers and magazines, including writing software reviews for PC Magazine. Talk about hanging onto technology by your fingernails! However, my great love is travel and I've enjoyed writing articles and content for the North Carolina Division of Tourism and hanging out at HomeandAbroad as the City Expert for Charlotte. I also blog at the beach so join me on the beautiful Emerald Coast. I’ve written two travel guides, “99 Fun Things To Do In Columbia and Boone County” (Missouri) and “Carolina Wine Country The Complete Guide.” (That was a tough assignment. I had to visit wineries and drink wine.) I am also the co-author of the 13th and 14th editions of the “Insider’s Guide to North Carolina’s Southern Coast and Wilmington.” My favorite neck of the woods is the Southeast USA and the Gulf Coast; North and South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. With tons of beaches, museums, festivals, art galleries, state and national parks and yummy seafood to be found, can you blame me? I’m out looking for fun things to do all across the South. I hope to see you there. |
