Carmen Livingston

Suite101.com Contributing Writer
Carmen Livingston, Carmen Livingston

Carmen Livingston currently works as a high school English and journalism teacher; however, her first love has always been writing. In her previous career as a journalist, she was an education beat reporter for The Syracuse Newspapers. Before then, Carmen was an associate producer for the Corporation for Educational Radio and Television, a small production company in New York City. She helped write and research a segment on public housing reform for the company's documentary, The New Urban Renewal. Her professional career as a journalist was brief, though. She discovered that teaching would be a better lifestyle fit. In 1998, she obtained a Master of Science in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University and has been teaching in public schools ever since. While contributing to the educational system has been satisfying, Carmen yearned to rejuvenate her creative writing skills and in 2007 earned another degree, this time an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Chatham University. She plans to continue her journalism career and eventually embark on writing books and teaching at the college level. In the mean time, please contact Carmen at cwritescarmen@gmail.com for freelance opportunities.
