Carl Begai

Born and bred in Toronto, Carl has been the European correspondent and a senior writer for the Canadian heavy metal magazine Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles (BW&BK) since January 1997. He is one of four news administrators for BW&BK's website, Bravewords.com, an anti-tabloid format information hub for the metal community. In addition, Carl operates his own website, which acts as a forum for stories and album reviews that don't see publication through BW&BK, band profiles, personal blogs and whatever else tickles his fancy.

Carl has also acted as copy editor for the English language version of the German goth culture magazine Orkus, has written artist biographies for Midnattsol, Ahab, and Amanda Somerville, collaborated on and shaped lyrics for the Midnattsol albums Where Twilight Dwells and Nordlys, and was instrumental in getting the Japanese band Blood Stain Child signed to German record label Dockyard 1. He is the co-author of the book Fire And Fame, released independently in July 2008.

While his focus is on heavy metal in most of its forms, Carl's musical interests include old school rock, classic artists such as The Beatles and The Police, and quality pop music acts. An avid reader and a good cook according to The Girlfriend, he believes reality TV is the bane of existence and that "professional" artists fool enough to lip-synch on stage should be forced to perform live for a rabid Stanley Cup Playoff crowd
