Hello and welcome! A few quick words about myself: I’m a Special Education teacher in Sudbury, Ontario and at the present time I am substitute teaching while pursuing my interest in writing, both online and in textbook format (a book about Student Leadership). I have taught in various Special Education settings for the past 6 years, including teaching classes for students with developmental disabilities, classes for students with mild intellectual disabilities, a resource centre for students with learning disabilities, a resource teacher for a school in charge of all Special Education programming and identifications, and a class for students who are gifted.

I have an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Trent University and a Bachelor of Education in JK-10 from Nipissing University and my Specialist in Special Education. I would like to pursue a Master of Science in Human Development in the near future with a concentration on child psychology from Laurentian University.

Special Education is also a passion of mine. I, myself, have been diagnosed with Learning Disabilities, including ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder), Irlen Syndrome, and I’m Gifted. Throughout my educational career I received assistance through the form of Speech Therapy, classroom assistance, resource support and in post-secondary, even more assistance with my studies so that I could achieve what I was capable of.

I bring a unique perspective to the topic, specializing in Special Education and having Learning Disabilities myself. I believe in using my story to help children and older students understand that they too can succeed if given the right tools and to believe in themselves and to persevere.

Two reasons I want to write for this topic are because I have a passion for writing and for Special Education. I want to help parents, teachers, paraprofessionals and individuals understand and use their newfound knowledge in helping their students and children succeed.

For fun, my wife and I love camping and hiking, spending time renovating, doing puzzles, playing sports and playing board games. We also have two daughters with whom we raise and hang out with!
