Kate Barthel is a freelance writer who lives and works on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. She has many years experience in psychology, teaching and child development. Having earned her Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, she is a qualified counselor in chemical dependency and family/marriage counseling.
Always a writer at heart, her career path has led her through human services in the fields of Developmental Disabilities, Autism, Addictions and work at Mash-ka-wisen, the Minnesota Indian Primary Residential Treatment Center at Fond du Lac Ojibwe Reservation.
Recent co-author of a book on paranormal phenomenon ("The Mysterious North Shore"), Kate is constantly generating projects with her husband, Bill Mayo. Their latest offering will be a tour guide of Lake Superior's North Shore, a topic that they have devoted much time to personally researching. Time spent in the wild woods has lent to a keen interest in studying wildlife, nature and environmental issues. Her artwork and writing has also been published in "MotherVerse" magazine.
For Kate, writing as a passion is only rivaled by her delight in preparing good food for her family. She also cooks for guests at a Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast and is often urged to write her own cookbook. Her specialties are bread and pies, but she is well-versed in many areas of the kitchen and cuisine.
With a diverse range of interests, and a natural student and researcher, Kate is eager to write on numerous topics with her specialist subjects including; mental and physical wellness, baking and cooking, paranormal research and the environment, among others.
