John is a Lawyer (retired). A qualified Attorney, Notary Public and Conveyancer John has a BA,LLB from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He practised law until 1987 when he became Municipal Legal Officer, heading up the legal department of the Municipality in Port Elizabeth, South Africa (the municipality became the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality). John retired in 2004. During his career John was involved in many negotiations,and participated in the transition to democracy in South Africa (local government law aspects mainly). He ran many local government workshops and gave courses for the local University to Ward Committee members on the legal transition to democracy. John compiled manuals for the municipality, including an interactive manual for councillors for use on the internet or local intranet.John has had a long time interest in philosophy, logic and conflict resolution. He is a Lay Minister in the Anglican Church. John has been married to Patricia for almost 39 years and loves music. John and Patricia have four children. Two live in the United States and two in England.
